Though fashion fatigue is beginning to show with the fashion pros, designers, on the other hand, are continuing to deliver fresh and exciting lineups. And many, including Michael Kors and Bibhu Mohapatra, have really stepped-up their fur game with some amazingly sumptuous looks… more on them later.
As the fashion dust finally settles, it is becoming apparent that New York is pushing for a trend favoring clean lines and established status looks. Here, we are indirectly grazing 90’s vocabulary, yet without fully committing to any kind of minimalism concept. What these collections bring is a great design decorum that reads neutral in its classic proportions and executions. There have been plenty of wise investment pieces on the menu here.
Of course, fashion week needs to ruffle feathers and bring-on some funk. Color is used to accent a broad range of looks, with some playing with humor as well. Unlike past collection cycles, Fall 2015-Winter 2015 is utilizing colors much more conservatively.
American Sportswear is really guiding this season offering easy outfits, many delivered with accompanying furs. The style span ranges wildly from sporty streetwear to Park Avenue chic. It is all about personal choice.
One might note that it is not only the Chinese calendar that is entering the Year of the Sheep, fall 2015 has unquestionably elevated lamb fur –Mongolian, Tibetan, shearling, broadtail – as a fashion favorite. Usually dyed or rinsed, these crazily varied textures bring drama and repute to innumerable creations, while reading young on most occasions.
Wisely chosen fur textures are really helping guide fashion’s messages. Fur is really being treated like any other material, providing designers with an extraordinary creative canvas. One of our favorites this week is Michael Kors’ flower mink coat bringing humor and incredible craft to the classic mink coat. The design in this coat, all created by hand cut-outs, is proof of the artisan qualities that make these extraordinary fur designs so precious and exclusive. We love it!
One more day then on to London!
