With this latest collection, Rick Owens referenced brutalism –the post-modern architectural style that revered concrete and mass. Yet, not unlike his last collection that looked at the early phase of the style, he managed to extract the style’s basics as well as its softer touches –minimizing angularities and enhancing roundness and fluidity.

Enough with the art history analysis, at the end of the day Owens’ collection is as superb as it is anomalous. Okay, there seems to always be an apocalyptic-Goth vibe with his work… an ultra-modern take on late medieval Flemish fashions. The choice of colors, the styling, the proportions, all work harmoniously well together, but always maintain that ‘Owensian’ quality.

This collection’s dualities are skillfully handled with masterful composure. Rick Owens’ graceful gowns partnered with cropped lantern-sleeve leather jackets couldn’t be more different, yet they work! Jackets also appeared with huge shearling collars that are going to his calling card with this collection.
