For anyone downplaying fashion’s popular appeal, walking through and around Lincoln Center this week might simply change that. In all seriousness, there are so many collections being presented in the Fashion Week tents and throughout the city that it can be overwhelming.
If sports are referred to as global religion, fashion must run a close second. This season, Spring-Summer 2013 is truly monumental in sheer number and variety of styles. If anyone had to single-handedly attend all shows, they’d pass out from exhaustion after 2-3 days–despite the excitement and adrenaline rush the week brings.
Colorful prints are out front in everything from florals to geometrics to experimental designs. Not to be left behind the pack, animal prints and camouflage are appearing here and there in subtle, and not-so-subtle interpretations.
But by mid-week, another trend was starting to show form: Ladylike. Yes, there are more than a handful of designers who are looking at that 1 percent for inspiration. One of these takes is a somewhat BoHo meets high-tech vibe; one could see it as a sleeker, more polished reformation of past looks which, when wisely reworked, reads original… if not a little avant garde – something the editors live for.
Let’s see what the last few days of collections bring about…
