Inherent in the creative process is freedom, and so it was when Perestroika came to Russia a mathematician named Helen Yarmak bought some fabric, made herself a fabulous dress and a star designer was born! A celebrity in her own right in her native Russia and a ”dahlink” of the uber-rich and fashionable the world over, Helen Yarmak brings a fresh perspective to luxury fur design.
Helen Yarmak is, in many ways, the world’s go-to designer for sable. I mean the same type of sable the Romanoff dynasty wore for centuries. Her furs are so light and fluffy and luxurious that they amaze as much as they enchant. Think cappuccino foam in fur-form. I’ve seen them up-close in person and I was stunned!
Jet-setting around the globe influences her fur designs with a regal casualness that updates preconceptions of luxury. Comfort and easy-use are as important to her as the furs’ inherent beauty. Furs shouldn’t just be precious by nature; they should be extensions of the wearer’s lifestyle and personality. Fresh, bold silhouettes are her trademark and she works them with exciting colorations and lush detailing.
Her last collection was a chic Rock n’ Roll romp that beautifully bridged classic designs with a sporty –if not sportswear– quality. She whips up blousons, coats, dresses and jackets in every fur and color and always finds a way to surprise.
