“Want to know what gets between me and my Calvins? Nothing.”
Pretty Baby, Endless Love and Blue Lagoon. If you are a child of the 60s or 70s you know what these movies meant to the generation, and how Brooke Shields influenced the definition of style and beauty for millions, women and men alike. Her intensely piercing eyes, smoldering, yet innocent beauty, coupled with her trademark full eyebrows, all combined for a look that was unforgettable and addictive. And, all this before she was of legal drinking age. Controversial and taboo acting roles were undoubtedly the theme for her career earlier on.
Brooke Shields’ cover for Vogue at 14 years old made her the youngest fashion model to ever grace the cover of a top fashion magazine.
It’s safe to say that Brooke Shields made an impact on the worlds of beauty and fashion that is even showing up today. The girl who hails from the lineage of a bona fide Italian Princess Donna Marina Torlonia, Brooke Shields has led a life that fairy tales are made of. From her young days of stardom both on the big screen and across the cover of every glossy fashion pub, Brooke Shields has managed to stay in the spotlight and continue to make headlines. Perhaps the best evidence of her ability to mesmerize was the well documented crush that superstar Michael Jackson had on her. In a 2009 interview Shields even admitted that the shy pop singer asked her to marry him on numerous occasions.
Fast forward to adult life, Shields was married to superstar professional tennis player Andre Agassi which lasted for 2 years; and in 2001, she married television writer Chris Henchy and the pair have two daughters Rowan and Grier.
As part of her maturation and growth process, Brooke took on many other noteworthy roles in films like Sahara and became extremely well known from her lead role in the television sitcom “Suddenly Susan”. Her more recent role in the weekly drama “Lipstick Jungle” was short lived, but none-the-less cast her an actress with some serious acting chops. Brooke Shields also has over 66 film and television titles under her belt and shows no signs of stopping.
Certainly accustomed to the glare of the media spotlight and controversy, Brooke Shields was the center of controversy in 2005 after she admitted to having postpartum depression and using medications to help her overcome it. The uproar came not because of her disclosure, but because of her biggest and most vocal opponent, mega star Tom Cruise, who viciously attacked her for her stance on medicating – not a wise move for the movie star who came off looking highly irrational in his objection to the very personal admission by Shields.
Creative at heart, Brooke lived out another one of her dreams in 2009 when she visited Denmark and Kopenhagen Fur to design her own fur coat. She wanted to understand the age-old craftsmanship and science behind matching and designing the garment from scratch.
More than just a face that could launch ten thousand ships, Brooke Shields has a HUGE charitable side to her as well. With a soft spot for charities benefitting children, Brooke has worked with groups like Healthy Child Healthy World, Listen Campaign, Project A.L.S. and Toys for Tots to name a few. Recognized globally as a symbol of beauty and grace, Brooke was one of only a handful of celebrities chosen to make an appearance in a video that was played in Times Square commemorating Israel’s 60th birthday in 2008.
