The men’s collections have just ended, dethroned by the grand haute couture spectacle, where the well-oiled fashion-machine spins at a dizzying speed. In fashion, it is a woman’s world! This matriarchy sets the tone for all to follow.
Is the overall fashion zeitgeist finally gelling? Sartorial independence is up for grabs. And from what a few designers concocted, some boys have no problems getting a little freaky.
Of course for most, these looks could make you reassess boundaries that were never really challenged. So let’s take the plunge and envision ‘what if’.
As usual, collections blend theatricality with commercialism, so, look beyond the eyeliner and the hair gel.
A few designers approached “the male customer” as a polished urbanite, well versed in good fashion, aware of trends, and in-tune with his masculinity. Some might say it takes ‘balls’ to wear a saffron shearling jacket or a beaver bomber jacket. Still they are surprisingly wearable and not offensive in the least.
Full-fur looks seem to be the last bastion of acceptability in menswear. Most men don’t mind fur, but second-guess it when it comes to full looks. Entertainers –especially rappers–shouldn’t be the only ones granted a free pass.
With an apparent frisson of adventure, many looks are surprisingly sleek, chic and masculine.
These looks are so polite, that it’s surprising that more men don’t consider them a wardrobe staple.
