The Parisian Menswear collections came and went under adoring camera flashes to offer what the fashion scene calls a modern line-up. In the age of immediate media satisfaction, Modern or Modernity can mean so many things, and meet so many criteria… pushing the envelope is the name of the game.
The litmus test, as usual, is what Milan just showed in their menswear interpretations the week prior. As we saw, Milan was all about proper dressing, beautiful coats and suits, men looking like men, clothes that looked like clothes. Thank you Milan! Paris, this time, is both formal and highly experimental.
As we saw in Milan, stripes are also popular in Paris, as is color blocking and adding ombré effects to the mix. What make Paris a little more edgy are not only the great cuts and experimental applications, but the actual colors… vivid is the name of this colorful palette. Rich hues are saturating coats and jackets to great effects.
Velvet, too, made its walk of fame with elegant suits and jackets in tow. Non-nonsense Luxe (i.e.: well-tailored pieces, clean colors, nice overall looks) is becoming a mainstay; retailers must still be jumping up and down with glee at the prospect of selling these investment pieces. By the look of it, you’ll be getting your $’s worth.
Leather and shearling are also strong sartorial factors this season cycle. The ladies are sure to follow with their upcoming collections. Leather, this time, means every type of skin possible. From crocodile/alligator to ostrich to lamb or cow, the looks are varied.
From full-length coats, blouson jackets to suits or lapel trims, leather is becoming a redefined material. As for the shearlings and fur pieces, the looks keep their masculinity while successfully flirting with various experimentations. Fashion for fashion sake is what keeps the wheel turning.
Next: the Anglo-Scottish twist.
